Question 1
Essay
Choose ONE of the following prompts to reflect on in a final essay for this unit: 1. What in this unit (Fahrenheit 451, Plato’s Cave Allegory, music/song choices, and The Truman Show) have you personally found the most meaningful? Give several examples from multiple works in each paragraph to support your reasoning. 2. Some critics see Christof as a sort of ‘god’ figure in the film and suggest that The Truman Show is actually a critique of the Christian worldview. Others argue that the film shows how mankind needs God and falls short when trying to ‘play God’. If the film IS critiquing Christianity, then what assumptions do the filmmakers make about Christianity? How is Truman’s life similar and different from humans in the actual world based on the Bible? 3. Consider the Vanity Fair article about The Truman Show. Discuss your take-aways, interesting lines or sections, and how the article informed your understanding of the film. Then, apply what you can to both Fahrenheit 451 and our culture/society. 4. Both Truman and Montag face confusion about their societies. How can confusion be meaningful in our lives? Give specific examples to support your thinking. Follow the 'Play by the rules' guidelines, including MLA Format, font requirements, double spacing, margins, citations, and a minimum of 750 words. Avoid using ChatGPT or AI software.
