AP Success - AP European History: WWII German Rocketry Intelligence
"SUMMARY The evidence of the existence of a long range rocket is reviewed; this evidence comes mainly from three types of source: secret agents, prisoners-of-war, and photography. Collateral evidence from other types of source is considered.
The evidence shows, beyond doubt of “planting”, that the Germans have for some time been developing a long range rocket at Peenemunde. In its present form this rocket is about 38 feet long by 6-7 feet diameter, with probably three tail fins, and a weight of 40-80 tons; it has been photographed. It is uncertain how much of the development and constructional work is done at Peenemunde, but it would be consistent with the large majority of the reports if Peenemunde were the sole site."

Question 1
According to the source, what types of evidence were primarily used to confirm the existence of a long-range rocket developed by the Germans?
Diplomatic sources, espionage, and aerial reconnaissance
Public broadcasts, newspaper reports, and intercepted shipments
Secret agents, prisoners-of-war, and photography
Intercepted communications, scientific analysis, and defectors
Question 2
The report indicates that the German long-range rocket was being developed at which location?
Peenemunde
Munich
Heidelberg
Berlin
Question 3
What does the term 'planting' in the context of this intelligence report most likely refer to?
Deliberate dissemination of false information
Establishing a new production facility
The physical installation of the rocket on a launch pad
The act of embedding secret agents within the German rocket program
Question 4
The dimensions of the German long-range rocket as described in the report suggest that the rocket was:
Comparable in size to artillery used in World War I
Of a similar size and weight to tanks used in World War II
Smaller than the average fighter aircraft of the time
Significantly larger than most contemporary conventional weaponry
Question 5
The report's reference to 'collateral evidence from other types of source' suggests that:
The evidence was directly obtained from the German military
The report was based solely on theoretical scientific calculations
The primary evidence was considered insufficient and unreliable
Additional information supported the existence of the rocket beyond the three main types of evidence
